While there isn’t a specific historical event behind 710, it’s believed to have emerged as a playful and creative celebration within the community. There is talk about the hip-hop artist, TaskRok, mentioning the 710 term during a virtual dab session in a TinyChat chat room in 2010 when playing a word game. What we know for sure is that the buzz of 710 first appeared on TokeCity on July 10th, 2011. This was soon followed by a more detailed definition on Urban Dictionary. By 2012, a post about 710 made its way onto Marijuana.com. Finally, in 2013, the term was featured in an article in LA Weekly, making it official.

The Dabbing Process

1. Gather your materials: You’ll need a dab rig, which consists of a glass water pipe, a nail or banger (usually made of quartz, titanium, or ceramic), a dabber tool (a small metal or glass wand used to handle the concentrate), a torch or e-nail to heat the nail, and a carb cap (optional, but helps to control airflow).

2. Prepare your concentrate: Using your dabber tool, take a small amount of your chosen concentrate. Be mindful not to touch it with your fingers, as the oils can be sticky and difficult to handle. 

3. Heat the nail: Using your torch or e-nail, heat the nail until it reaches the desired temperature. The ideal temperature can vary depending on the concentrate and personal preference. For most concentrates, a temperature between 315°F (157°C) and 600°F (315°C) is recommended. Quartz nails tend to retain heat longer, while titanium heats up quickly.

4. Allow the nail to cool: After heating the nail, give it some time to cool down before dabbing. The recommended cooling time can vary depending on the type of concentrate and the thickness of the nail. Generally, waiting around 20-45 seconds is a good starting point. You want the nail to be hot enough to vaporize the concentrate, but not so hot that it burns and produces harsh vapor.

5. Apply the concentrate: Once the nail has reached the desired temperature, use the dabber tool to place the concentrate onto the nail. Gently touch the concentrate to the heated surface, allowing it to vaporize instantly. Be cautious not to touch the hot nail with your fingers or the dabber tool.
6. Inhale and enjoy: As the concentrate vaporizes, inhale slowly and steadily through the mouthpiece of your dab rig. Some people prefer to use a carb cap to cover the nail, which can help retain heat and improve the vaporization process. Take your time and savor the flavors and effects of the concentrate.
